Forensic evidence indicates Robin Williams’s death on Monday was asphyxia by hanging, California investigators said yesterday. Among the many people grieving the loss of the beloved comedic genius is The Crazy Ones creator David E. Kelley. “The talent was legendary,” said Kelley. “But equally inspiring, perhaps more so, was his kindness and humanity. A gentle soul, who touched us all.”

ABC News apologized Tuesday morning for showing live shots of Williams’ home on its website after the comic legend’s death. “When we realized there was no news value to the live stream, we took it down immediately,” said ABC News after drawing criticism on social media. The live stream was yanked after less than an hour.  Also apologizing, for a poorly chosen remark: Fox NewsShepard Smith, for using the word “coward” in describing Williams’ actions. If his words offended the family, said Smith, “from the bottom of my heart, I could not be more sorry.”

Half-hour roundtable series Live From E!, the net’s first digital show to cross over to linear, is expanding to three nights a week. Hosted by Jason Kennedy, Ross Mathews, Maria Menounos and a rotating panelist, the pop culture show will air Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting September 8 at 8p.

Fans can soon try for a piece of HBO’s True Blood. An auction hosted by ScreenBid will offer over 1500 items from the vampire drama, ending its seven-season run Sunday, August 24. Up for grabs: Arlene’s wedding gown, Eric Northman’s Fangtasia throne and vampire fangs. Bidding takes place August 20-25.

MTV acquired basic cable syndication rights for New Girl. The 20th Century Fox Television comedy will air weekdays on the cable nets starting in fall 2015 in the five-year deal. Netflix already grabbed streaming rights. Season four launches on Fox Tuesday, September 16 at 9p.

Political analyst and pollster Dotty Lynch died August 10 of complications from melanoma. She was 69. Lynch, one of the earliest female pollsters to advise presidential campaigns, covered politics for CBS for 20 years, until 2005. “We all loved and admired her so much,” said Face the Nation anchor Bob Schieffer.
