NBC‘s playing hardball, pitting a new episode of summer hit America’s Got Talent (instead of the planned repeat) against the 9p-11p premiere of ABC singing competition Rising Star on Sunday. NBC is also powering up the night with a “Showstopping Sunday” stunt, featuring attempts to break world records (jumping over moving cars, diving into fire), airing as interstitials hosted by Talent judge Howie Mandel throughout the night.

Carson Daly (The Voice) and Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project) will lend an assist to Television Academy chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum for the reveal of the 66th Primetime Emmys nominees, selected for the first time via online voting. The announcement will be streamed live on Emmys.com on Thursday, July 10 at 8:40a. New key art was unveiled Wednesday, showing Emmy off as “elegant, powerful and triumphant.”

HBO vampire drama True Blood could morph into a musical. Series composer Nathan Barr told the Associated Press at an event Tuesday night that he’s pitched the idea to HBO and show creator Alan Ball, and hopes to present a workshop version of the show next year. True Blood star Stephen Moyer, who played Captain Von Trapp in NBC‘s Sound of Music Live! special last year, said he lent a hand with the project proposal. Blood’s seventh and final TV season launches Sunday, June 22 at 9p.

Jay Leno landed the 17th annual Mark Twain Prize for American humor, to be presented at a gala at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC on October 19. Like Twain, “no one was too high or low” to escape Leno’s wit, said Kennedy Center chairman David Rubenstein, “and we are all better for it.” Last year’s honoree was Carol Burnett. Ceremony airs on PBS Sunday, November 23.
