Meg Ryan has been tapped to narrate CBS‘s How I Met Your Mother spinoff pilot How I Met Your Dad, as an unseen Bob Saget voiced “future Ted” in the original. Ryan’s character is played in flashback by Greta Gerwig.

Sorry, Netflix. Amazon.com struck a deal with HBO for exclusive SVOD rights for past seasons of certain HBO programs including The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood and Boardwalk Empire. Girls, Newsroom and Veep will eventually be available as well, about three years after air. New shows are not part of the deal – for that, viewers still have to sign up for HBO.

The VMAs are headed back to Southern California. MTV announced via video Wednesday that the 2014 music awards show will air live from the newly renovated Forum in Inglewood, CA on Sunday, August 24th. Rob Lowe will narrate Nat Geo miniseries The ’90s: The Last Great Decade?, premiering in July. The former Brat Packer narrated the net’s The ’80s: The Decade That Made Us last spring, and starred in last fall’s Killing Kennedy. “No one has really examined the ’90s like this before,” said Lowe. “I think viewers will be fascinated by the dramatic changes we’ve seen in even the small amount of time that’s passed since Y2K.”
