HBO announced plans for a tribute to the late James Gandolfini, best known for his memorable run on The Sopranos (1999-2007), who passed away June 19 at age 51. Simpsons co-creator and philanthropist Sam Simon will receive the 2014 Valentine Davies Award from the Writers Guild of America West “in recognition of his humanitarian efforts and community service.” Simon, who was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, revealed he plans to donate much of his Simpsons royalties to charity.

Behind-the-scenes shuffling continues at CBS This Morning. Demi Lovato is skipping out on The X Factor, reports People.com. The singer, who spent two seasons bantering with exec producer/judge Simon Cowell, “had a great run and a good time,” according to the site’s source, but she wants to focus on her music. Who might fill Lovato’s spot? “I recently met Miley Cyrus,” said Cowell recently, “and I really liked her.”
