It’s official: Katie Couric cut short her ABC News stint as special correspondent, part of the deal for her syndicated talk show, Katie, to become Yahoo‘s global anchor in early 2014. “News is definitely a daily habit for our users,” said Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, “and Katie will work with our talented editorial team to pioneer a new chapter of digital journalism.” Couric will continue to host her weekday talker.

On Sunday’s episode of Seth MacFarlane animated comedy Family Guy, a major character was killed off: Brian the dog. Exec producer Steve Callaghan told E! Online that the shocking event was intended to “shake things up” in the show’s twelfth season. The Sopranos‘ Tony Sirico will voice the role of the Griffin family’s new pooch, Vinny. A petition from outraged fans demanding Brian’s return was circulating by early Monday.

In the wake of Saturday’s fatal shooting in a Nashville bar, Spike TV yanked the Sunday 10p ep of Bar Rescue that was set where country singer Jerald Wayne Mills had been shot. But the net faced viewer outrage when it overlooked the midnight encore. “In our last minute effort over the weekend to pull the Bar rescue episode featuring the Pit and Barrel,” posted Spike on Facebook, “we regretfully did not remove a late-night telecast of the episode. We apologize to all those affected by the terrible tragedy.”
