Murder, She Wrote has sprung back to life on NBC. Octavia Spencer will step into Angela Lansbury‘s shoes as an amateur snoop in a pilot for the procedural, reports Deadline; Universal TV is producing. The original Murder lasted 12 seasons.

NBC is bringing back the American Comedy Awards, broadcast by ABC from 1987-2000, and Comedy Central in 2001. The reboot will be produced by Don Mischer Productions, to air in May 2014.

TNT has ordered eight episodes of reality series Wake Up Call. The Electus production features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson motivating people facing harsh situations. TNT and TBS SVP, Unscripted Development David Eilenberg said the project is a “natural successor” to Johnson reality competition The Hero, which wrapped on TNT in August.

Pioneering sportscaster Bill Mazer died on October 24. He was 92. Mazer covered sports for over 60 years, primarily in New York, including 20 as a sports anchor and host of WNEW-TV’s weekend roundup, “Sports Extra.” Mazer was nicknamed “The Amazin'” for his extensive knowledge of sports trivia.
