NBC has ordered a reality competition series that promises to send the winner out of this world. Space Race, from Mark Burnett‘s One Three Media, has partnered with Sir Richard Branson‘s Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo for a contest that has people vying for a ride on the commercial spaceline (price tag: $250,000). “The term ‘trip of a lifetime’ has for once been delivered on,” said NBC Entertainment president of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy.

ABC hopes a 90-minute special with David Blaine will conjure high November Sweeps ratings. In David Blaine: Real or Magic, the illusionist will perform for A-listers like Woody Allen, Harrison Ford and former President George Bush, going into some of the stars’ homes. No date for the Radical Media production was announced.

Today‘s Matt Lauer scored the first interview with Miley Cyrus since the singer’s headline-making raunchy VMA appearance on August 25. Cyrus will perform on the NBC morning show Monday, October 7 as well as chat with Matt. Cyrus is also hosting Saturday Night Live tomorrow, ahead of the October 8 debut of her new album.

Just three episodes into its freshman season, Sleepy Hollow has won a 13-ep renewal from Fox. “It’s a conceptual blast like nothing else on television,” said Fox chairman Kevin Reilly. Boasting 13.6 million viewers after three additional days of time-shifted viewing, the show’s premiere was the net’s most successful fall drama debut since 24 in 2001. Sleepy Hollow airs Mondays at 9p.
