Crooner Harry Connick, Jr. landed the open judge’s seat on American Idol, joining Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez. Fox had planned to fill the spot with a hit-making exec, but after music producer Dr. Luke dropped out, the singing competition had to make a quick hire or risk delaying production for season thirteen, premiering Monday, January 15, 2014.

Fox has ordered up a dating competition show from Ryan Seacrest Productions. It’s not the usual fare for the Idol host’s company, better known for docu-reality series like Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Married to Jonas. No premiere date has been set.

It took less than three weeks for Spira Footwear and A&E’s Duck Dynasty to reach their goal of selling $100,000 worth of duck-camouflage-patterned running shoes on crowd-funding platform Rockethub.com. The initiative comes from A&E’s Project Startup, designed to showcase entrepreneurial brands; other companies include Axon Optics and World Housing Solution.

Matt LeBlanc (Episodes) hops across Showtime sitcoms to guest on season three of former Friends (1994-2004) castmate Lisa Kudrow‘s show, Web Therapy. LeBlanc plays a compulsive online gambler. He’s the third Friend, after Courteney Cox (season one), and David Schwimmer (season two), to make an appearance; the first of LeBlanc’s two eps airs tonight at 11p.

Showtime has acquired Made in America, a concert doc from Imagine Entertainment featuring A-list musicians like Jay Z and Pearl Jam. In addition to performances at the Philadelphia festival of the same name, held last year by Jay Z and sponsored by Budweiser, are backstage footage and interviews. Showtime premiere is Friday, October 11.

Crime drama The Glades won’t make it to season five on A&E. The Fox TV Studios-produced series drew season-high ratings for its finale on August 26, with 3.4 million total viewers, but averaged just 2.5 million over the course of the season.

A&E is bringing back sophomore drama Longmire, after season-high 4.42 million viewers and 1.1 million A18-49 tuned in to the August 26 finale. Second season of the Warner Horizon-Shephard/Robin Co. production averaged 3.7 million viewers and 942,000 A18-49.

Extra is making a move. The entertainment news show from Telepictures Productions will relocate taping from LA’s Grove shopping complex to Universal Studios and CityWalk for its 20th season. Sounds win-win: the Universal properties get a star-studded added attraction, and hosts Mario Lopez and Maria Menounos get a big new playground. Season premieres Monday, September 9.
