CSI: Crime Scene’s Gearge Eads will be MIA for some of the CBS procedural’s upcoming 14th season. After a reported heated exchange with an eight-months-pregnant writer over the direction of his character, Eads, with the show since its first season, is taking a leave of absence. “George Eads will not appear in several episodes during the first half of the season,” said a CBS rep in a statement. “We look forward to him returning to CSI very soon.” Series returns Wednesday, September 25 at 10p.
In another sign that TV is becoming increasingly important to Twitter, the social networking service has acquired Trendrr, a social media analytics company that specializes in tracking TV-focused social media activity, and counts among its clients ABC, MTV and Univision. (Trendrr says it will honor its existing contracts, but won’t be signing new ones.) The deal comes a month after a Trendrr study reported that Facebook has five times more TV chatter than Twitter – a study that likely won’t be repeated.
Fox is going all-out to promote upcoming Brookly Nine-Nine, handing every minute of its precious national promo time Wednesday night to the Andy Samberg/Andre Braugher sitcom. The show, to be part of a Tuesday night comedy block, premieres September 17 at 8:30p.
Swimming champ Michael Phelps is paying a visit to one of his favorite TV shows, USA drama Suits. He’ll play himself on the midseason premiere of the show’s third year, airing in 2014. USA reached out to Phelps after taking note of his enthusiastic tweets about Suits, but he’s not the first star from the 2012 Olympics swim team to make a splash in prime time. After a high-profile exit from Scientology, Leah Remini (King of Queens) has joined the cast of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars. The full line-up of hopeful hoofers will be announced on GMA Wednesday, September 4; series seventeen premieres Monday, September 16 at 8p.
AMC can’t get enough of David Morrissey. The Walking Dead bad guy will also star in the cable net’s pilot Line of Sight, as a National Transportation Safety Board inspector who survives a crash. “We are huge fans of David Morrissey and are glad he’ll be doing double duty,” said AMC in a statement. Season four of the zombie drama premieres Sunday, October 13.
Comedian/actor Leslie Jordan has joined the cast of American Horror Story: Coven. Season three of the FX anthology series premieres Wednesday, October 9 at 10p.
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has ordered docu-series Crazy.Sexy.Life, about four fabulous friends navigating life in NYC. The net is offering a preview of the show on Tuesday, September 3 at 10p, after the fall finale of Tyler Perry drama The Haves and the Have Nots, which saw its highest rating (1.76 W25-54) on August 20. “Stepping into scripted programming with Tyler Perry was a turning point for us,” Erik Logan, president of OWN and Harpo Studios, tells Cynopsis. Series will premiere in early 2014.
The Amazing Race has unveiled the teams competing in season 23 of the CBS reality show, and they include theater performers who call themselves the “Queens of Bingo,” married E.R. doctors and baseball wives.
