Soledad O’Brien, who left CNN as anchor of morning show Starting Point in March, is heading to HBO. O’Brien is set to join the network’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. In addition, O’Brien has signed an overall content development deal with HBO. The pact lets the network have first look at scripted projects and long-form programming concepts developed by O’Brien’s production company, Starfish Media Group.

ESPN is shutting down its 3D network, ESPN 3D, at the end of the 2013. The move had been rumored. The company has cited viewers limited interest in the enhanced service, which launched in June 2010.

It’s official. Hilary Estey McLoughlin, President, Telepictures Productions, and Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, have announced the four-week test talk show The Real. Hosted by Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley, the daily program will be available on select FOX-owned stations in New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Phoenix, Houston and Tampa, beginning July 15. The show is produced by Telepictures Productions and distributed by Warner Bros.

Alfonso Ribeiro has been named host of ABC Family‘s new series Spell-Mageddon. The one-hour game show puts a fresh spin on the spelling bee, as contestants take on hilarious distractions while spelling increasingly challenging words. Production begins on Monday, June 17 in Studio City. The show is slated to debut on Wednesday, July 24 at 9p.

Justin Bruening will be back as Chef Jeff on the ABC Family drama Switched at Birth, according to The Hollywood Reporter. His character is slated to appear on episode 18, airing July 29. CSI alum Larry Sullivan has also been tapped for a guest spot on episode 17, airing July 22. He’ll play Leo, someone who may have adopted Angelo’s baby.
