Oprah Winfrey speaks with NBA player Jason Collins, who recently came out as the first openly gay active pro athlete in a major American sport, in a special episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter airing Sunday, May 5 at 8p on OWN. Also appearing in the special episode are Collins’ twin brother, former NBA player Jarron Collins, his parents Portia and Paul Collins, his sister-in-law Elsa Collins and aunt Teri Jackson, a San Francisco Superior Court judge and the first family member he came out to. “Being in the interview room with Oprah and Jason was an unforgettable experience,” said Sheri Salata, president, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. “The mutual respect was palpable. They laughed and had what I would call as a producer, “the moment.” Jason’s twin brother, Jarron added a new perspective in sharing his shock and yet unconditional acceptance when Jason revealed the truth after 33 years. From Mom and Dad to Aunt Terithis is a family who moves through life with a deep appreciation for one another.
