Maria Shriver is returning to NBC News as a special anchor. Shriver will report and produce specials and features focused on the shifting roles and emerging power of American women. Her stories will appear across multiple NBCUniversal platforms, including NBC News, CNBC, MSNBC and NBC Sports. “I’ve always believed that television can inspire and elevate humanity, and that’s my mission with this new partnership,” said Shriver. “I look forward to shining a light on all areas of a woman’s experience from faith and finances, wellness and work, to relationships and the new realities of modern life and exploring these issues in a way that brings the voices of men into these critically important conversations.” Shriver previously served as an anchor and correspondent for NBC News from 1986 until 2004.

Chris Matthews has signed a new long-term deal with MSNBC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pact will keep Matthews at Hardball through the next presidential election. However, the 67-year-old newsman is planning to retire from his syndicated program, The Chris Matthews Show, in July.

Four aspiring chefs trying to earn a degree at the Louisiana Culinary Institute in Baton Rouge will be the focus of the new Cooking Channel docu-series The Freshman Class. Premiering Monday, June 10 at 10:30p, the show follows four students over the course of eight episodes as they make the journey from first day of school to final exams pursuing their dream of becoming a professional chef. The show is produced by Punched in the Head Productions.

The sexy world of professional basketball and the dancers who make the fans and players go wild is explored in the new VH1 series Hit The Floor. The dramatic scripted series, starring Dean Cain, Kimberly Elise, Charlotte Ross and newcomer Taylour Paige, follows the lives and loves of the Los Angeles Devil Girls, the professional basketball dance team. Hit the Floor marks VH1’s second foray into the hour-long scripted series genre. The show premieres Monday, May 27 at 9p.

ABC has begun casting for Sing Your Face Off, a new talent variety competition featuring five celebrities who are transformed and trained to perform as a legendary music icon. The show is based on the hit series Your Face Sounds Familiar, which was created by Endemol Spain and has been sold to 20 countries across Europe, Latin America and Asia. The six-episode series, produced by Endemol USA, has not yet been assigned a premiere date.
