ABC has confirmed that Joy Behar is leaving The View when her contract expires at the end of the summer. A co-host of the show since its debut in 1997, Behar’s departure will leave Barbara Walters as the last remaining original cast member. Behar will then be a free agent as her Current TV show will also end when the network transitions to Al Jazeera. Behar will discuss her decision with her co-hosts Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd on The View today, at 11a. There have also been rumors that she may be heading to CNN, where she had her own show on Headline News and was Larry King’s guest host. On the heels of Behar’s announcement, there are now reports that Hasselbeck, who has a long-term contract with the show, will also be leaving at the end of the current season. However, the Hasselbeck rumors remained unconfirmed. If it comes to pass, this will leave Walters and ABC with two big seats to fill without losing any View-ers. It can be done, of course; the transition of Regis & Kelly to Kelly & Michael was a smooth changing of the guard.
