Yesterday The CW handed early renewals to freshmen series Arrow as well as returning series The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural for the next fall season. Arrow is the network’s best series debut since 2009 when it launched last October and currently ranks as CW’s most-watched series with 4.3 million weekly viewers. The Vampire Diaries will be back for a 5th season while Supernatural notches its ninth season in the fall.

Singer/songwriter and actor John Legend is in business with USA Network on a drama series called The Edge as part of his exclusive production deal with Universal Cable Productions and his Get Lifted Film Co. The drama is about an idealistic Harvard Business School grad who joins a financial firm only to discover the company has dark secrets. Justin Herber and Adam Hoff are writing partners on the project and will be EPs along with Legend and Get Lifted partners Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorious.

NBC’s Dracula drama series has cast Thomas Kretschmann as professor Abraham Van Helsing and Oliver Jackson-Cohen is also joining the cast as Jonathan Harker, a journalist desperate to climb the ranks of aristocracy in this 1890s set drama thriller starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Dracula. NBC bypassed the traditional pilot stage for this series and ordered 10 episodes.

Sunday’s telecast of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on CBS delivered 28.37 million total viewers become the second largest audience for this awards event since 1993, according to Nielsen’s updated preliminary Live + Same Day ratings.

Also on Sunday, the season 3B premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC at 9p attracted 12.3 million total viewers, a +51% increase over last year’s 2B premiere. The 9p airing also delivered 7.7 million among A18-49, a +44% bump over last year’s season 2B debut. Following at 10p, the season 3B premiere of Talking Dead drew 4.1 million total viewers and 2.7 million with A18-49, a +37% and a +396% boost respectively over last season’s 2B premiere.
