An average of 7.9 million total viewers watched the season three premiere of MASTERPIECE CLASSIC’s Downton Abbey on PBS Sunday night, per Nielsen Fast National data. The season three premiere episode quadrupled the average PBS primetime rating and delivered a +96% increase over the second season premiere of Downton Abbey the previous year (based on metered market averages). The highest local market ratings were at PBS member stations KCTS/Seattle (9.6 rating/17 share); WGBH/Boston (8.8/14); KLRU/Austin (8.1/13) and WNET/New York (8.0/12). Downton Abbey is a Carnival/MASTERPIECE co-production.

NBC and Shine America, producer of primetime series The Biggest Loser now in its 14th season, is partnering with top brands to help Challenge America to get healthy in 2013. General Mills, Brita® Water Filters, Planet Fitness, SUBWAY®, Jennie-O® and Walgreens are all integration partners for the new season and part of The Biggest Loser’s Challenge America effort, a drive lasting all season that gives viewers weight loss tools via www.biggestloser.com. Furthermore, Seventeen Magazine and NFL PLAY 60, the NFL’s youth health and fitness campaign, are involved as promotional partners to help teens and children incorporate healthy activities into their daily lives. The new season of The Biggest Loser debuted Sunday and last night and for the first time kid participants are included along with adult contestants. Jillian Michaels has also returned and rejoins trainers Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince and show host Alison Sweeney. The Biggest Loser airs on NBC Mondays at 8p and is a production of Shine America, 25/7 Productions and 3 Ball Productions.

PBS’ primetime series Antiques Roadshow, debuting its 17th season last night, will be taping new shows over the summer for its 18th broadcast season premiering in January 2014. Antiques Roadshow’s 2013 tour dates which feature antique appraisals by top appraisers include Detroit on June 1; Jacksonville, FL on June 8; Anaheim, CA on June 22; Boise, ID on June 29; Knoxville, TN on July 13; Baton Rouge, LA on July 27; Kansas City, MO on August 10; and Richmond, VA on August 17. Admission to the appraisal events are free though tickets are required and must be obtained in advance. Ticket applications and ticketing rules are available at pbs.org/antiques.

Following his win of two Olympic Gold Medals at the 2012 London Games, swimmer Ryan Lochte is starring in a new docu-series on E! titled What Would Ryan Lochte Do?. This new six-episode series will follow the superstar athlete who, based on the show’s central question, would do just about anything for love, family, his friends and more. Produced by Intuitive Entertainment, E! will debut the series this April.

E! has a second new unscripted series set to premiere in April 2013 offering an exclusive look inside the lives of personalities involved in New York’s culinary scene. Playing with Fire will highlight the movers and shakers of New York’s restaurant industry as they try to juggle busy professional and personal lives. Production on Playing with Fire began last fall on the six-episode, one-hour series produced by Atlas Media Corporation.

After news broke last week that Al Jazeera is buying Current TV, former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer said he is ending his 8p weeknight show Viewpoint. Comedian John Fugelsang will take over Spitzer’s time slot until Al Jazeera dissolves all of Current TV’s programming.

In the New Year, VH1 is getting a makeover involving a new brand identity across linear, digital and social media platforms. VH1’s new logo will include a plus sign (+) within the VH1 letters and number which is now being referred to its signature tagmark rather than a tagline. The plus sign is included to represent the network’s dedication to offering music, pop culture and nostalgia programming. The strategy and redesign were developed in part by design company, Gretel, and ad agency Hill Holliday will create a 360-degree creative launch strategy.

Making it official, Prospect Park is resurrecting canceled daytime soaps All My Children and One Life to Live which aired on ABC for 41 years and 43 years respectively. Both soaps would air on Prospect Park’s The Online Network. After The Online Network has signed guild agreements with both SAG-AFTRA and the DGA, production will begin in February. Agnes Nixon, the creator of both shows will be involved as a consultant. Jennifer Pepperman will serve as Executive Producer for One Life to Live and Ginger Smith will be EP of All My Children.

Former General Hospital star Steve Burton is joining CBS’ The Young and the Restless. Burton’s first episode will air January 29 in the role as Dylan McAvoy, a rugged ex-soldier with a secret newly-arrived in Genoa City. On ABC’s General Hospital, Burton played Jason Morgan since 1991.
