Making it official, Al Jazeera Media Network announced yesterday it is launching a new US-based news channel that will offer domestic and international news for American audiences. Al Jazeera Media Network additionally revealed it has acquired Current TV and the new US-based news channel will be available on Current’s distribution network. There will be a transition period from existing programming until the new Al Jazeera channel launches later in 2013. The new network will be based in New York City utilizing the existing Al Jazeera news bureaus in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago and will further open more bureaus in locations across the US.

A television history first: CBS’ Hawaii Five-O will let fans vote on the ending of an episode in real time via CBS.com or Twitter during the show’s East and West Coast broadcasts on Monday, January 14 at 10p. The episode involves the team investigating a mysterious death of an O’ahu State University professor and his boss, his teaching assistant and a student who he caught cheating are all suspects. After each suspect’s motive is revealed viewers will be directed to CBS.com or Twitter to choose either #theBoss, #theTA or #theStudent as the culprit. The votes will be tallied immediately and the most popular ending will become part of the broadcast. Separate voting will happen for East/Central and Pacific Time Zone broadcasts. The three different endings will be available afterwards at CBS.com. Hawaii Five-O is produced by CBS Television Studios.

Fans of ABC’s Nashville, starring Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere and Charles Esten can again watch the drama from season one as CMT will air all previously aired episodes back-to-back beginning this Sunday at 2p. An all-new episode of Nashville will air January 9 at 10p on ABC.
