Midseason drama The Carrie Diaries will premiere on The CW January 14 at 8p. Set in the 1980s, The Carrie Diaries is the prequel series to Sex and the City and follows young Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) in high school. With the premiere of The Carrie Diaries in the 8p Monday slot, The CW plans on shifting 90210 back an hour to 9p taking over Gossip Girl’s former spot.

USA Network’s original drama Burn Notice was handed a seventh season order consisting of 13 episodes. Next year, Burn Notice will become the third series in the network’s history to reach 100 episodes. This news follows USA’s recent third season order for original series Suits. Burn Notice is produced by Fox Television Studios and Fuse Entertainment.

SHOWTIME will end The Big C, starring Laura Linney with a four-part limited event series created to bring finality to the storyline. The Big C: hereafter will have Linney reprising her role as Cathy Jamison, whose cancer diagnosis forces her to shake up her life. Joining her in the cast is Oliver Platt, John Benjamin Hickey, Gabriel Basso and Gabourey Sidibe. For the final episodes, Kathy Najimy and fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi will guest star. Najimy will appear in all four eps as Cathy’s (Linney) no-nonsense therapist who helps her deal with the challenges she faces while Mizrahi will appear in several eps as himself. The Big C: hereafter is produced by Sony Pictures Television. SHOWTIME also set the premiere date of Jim Rome on SHOWTIME for November 21 at 10p. The new, one-hour series will highlight Rome’s trademark style and opinions about the world of sports. The series is produced by Generate Entertainment, Inc.

Tuesday night’s election TV coverage put NBC on top among the broadcast networks, based preliminarily on fast affiliate returns from Nielsen. NBC posted 12.56 million viewers followed by ABC with 11.15 million and CBS with 8.42 million. Among the cable news networks, FOX News Channel (FNC) was first during primetime with 11.45 million viewers between 8-11p with CNN next at 9.25 million viewers and MSNBC with 4.67 million. FNC also had the highest peak viewership at an average of 11.8 million between 10-11p. With A25-54 viewers, CNN scored with 4.57 million with FNC in second at 4.45 million and MSNBC at 1.99 million in the demo. Though from the 7p to 2a seven-hour block, which encompassed the state returns to Governor Mitt Romney’s concession speech and ending with President Barack Obama’s victory speech, it was CNN that did best overall with an average of 8.84 million total viewers though FNC was not too far behind with 8.7 million total viewers and MSNBC pulled in 4.6 million.

As the third season of PBS’ MASTERPIECE drama series Downton Abbey draws closer, a retrospective of seasons one and two will air as Downton Abbey Revisited on November 25 at 8p. The 90-minute show will feature Dame Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, Dan Stevens, Michelle Dockery, Siobhan Finneran and other cast members as they comment on key scenes from the first two seasons and interviews with the actors and crew along with never-before-seen footage. The program is hosted by self-professing Downton Abbey fan, Angela Lansbury. An encore of Downton Abbey Revisited will air later on November 25 at 930p (check local listings). PBS will premiere season three of Downton Abbey on MASTERPIECE January 6.
