Documentary series Behind The Music is back on VH1 profiling eight music icons. Launching its 15th year on September 16 at 9p, Behind The Music will chronicle the music careers of NE-YO, Nicole Scherzinger, Gym Class Heroes, Toni Braxton, T.I. (updated episode), Pink (updated), Carrie Underwood and Train. The series also is expanding via VH1.com with Behind the Song, a companion series of original, standalone mini episodes where artists reflect on the inspiration behind a signature song.

Tonight, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC are airing the Stand Up to Cancer special, live and commercial free beginning at 8p. Many other networks are also carrying the telecast including HBO, HBO Latino, Bio, Lifetime Movie Network, Logo, MLB Network, mun2, Palladia and VH1. In addition, STARZ and ENCORE will air the telecast and Spartacus star Lucy Lawless will pay tribute to her co-star Andy Whitfield who lost his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma on September 11, 2011. Frances Conroy will remain as part of the cast of FX’s anthology series American Horror Story for its second season. Show co-creator, Ryan Murphy tweeted earlier this week saying Conroy will play “the ultimate angel” in the next installment titled American Horror Story: Asylum.

Scott Thompson, former star of The Kids in the Hall has joined NBC’s drama Hannibal in a recurring role, cites THR. Thompson will play Jimmy Price, the third member of the FBI crime scene investigation team headed by Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford, the leader of the FBI’s behavioral science unit. Jimmy is an expert in fingerprinting and spatter patterns at crime scenes. The other team members include Hettienne Park and Aaron Abrams who play Beverly Katz and Brian Zeller, respectively.
