As of yesterday, former NFL star and FOX NFL Sunday broadcaster Michael Strahan joined Kelly Ripa as co-host of the morning syndicated talk show, LIVE! with Kelly and Michael.  The search for a new co-host following the departure of Regis Philbin late last year, took nine months and Strahan had made several guest appearances on the show and co-hosted with Ripa more than twenty times during the last two years.  LIVE! with Kelly and Michael is distributed in national syndication by Disney-ABC Domestic Television and is produced by WABC-TV in New York with executive producer Michael Gelman.

TBS ordered a second season of its new sitcom Sullivan & Son which presently airs on Thursdays at 10p.  To date, the comedy is average more than 2.5 million viewers during season one.  TBS ordered 10 episodes for the second season slated to return in 2013.  Sullivan & Son is produced by Wild West Television in association with Warner Horizon Television.

FX’s fall schedule was revealed with premiere dates for several returning series.  Sons of Anarchy is back for a fifth season kicking off with a 90-minute episode on September 11 at 10p.  The Ultimate Fighter Fridays bows September 14 with a two-hour premiere at 9p with the series settling into its 10p time slot the next week.  October 11 marks the eighth season debut of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia at 10p followed by the fourth season of The League at 1030p and Russell Brand’s late-night talk show BrandX.  And, lastly the second season of anthology series American Horror Story: Asylum opens October 17 at 10p.

Sunday’s midseason finale of AMC’s Breaking Bad at 10p tallied 2.8 million total viewers, +47% better than the season four finale.  The 10p airing also delivered 1.7 million among A18-49 and 1.5 million A25-54 viewers.  Sunday’s episode concluded the first half of season five and the final eight episodes of Breaking Bad will air next summer.

Oprah Winfrey Network: OWN picked up the exclusive cable rights to Rachael Ray and the now-cancelled The Nate Berkus Show.  Both shows are produced in part by Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios.  Rachael Ray, which launched in 2006, joins OWN from CBS Television Distribution and will air episodes from the first five seasons back-to-back on weekdays at 9a beginning September 10.  Rachael Ray is also produced by CBS Television Distribution, Watch Entertainment and Scripps Network.  The Nate Berkus Show, produced by Harpo Studios and Sony Pictures Television ran as a nationally syndicated show from September 13, 2010 to May 24, 2012 before it was cancelled.  OWN acquired The Nate Berkus Show from Harpo Studios and will air episodes from its two seasons beginning September 10 with back-to-back episodes at 11a.

CBS is moving forward with Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop television project.  The network gave the project a pilot production commitment which is being billed as a sequel to the film trilogy that starred Murphy as a Detroit cop working in Beverly Hills.  Shawn Ryan (The Last Resort) will serve as show-runner which is about Axel Foley’s son, Aaron, a cop working in Beverly Hills as he tries to escape his famous father’s shadow.  Murphy will reprise his role as the wise-cracking detective and will recur if the project is picked up to series.  Ryan will write the script and serve as EP along with his MiddKid Productions partner Marney Hochman and Murphy.

After a two-year hiatus, Jillian Michaels is re-joining NBC’s The Biggest Loser for its 14th season that highlights overweight teens as members of the adult teams.  The Biggest Loser premieres its new season in January and Michaels is one of the trainers along with Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince.

Former BET 106 & Park co-host Terrence Jenkins joins E! as Anchor along with Giuliana Rancic of E! News.  Jenkins begins his new gig on November 12.  He will also contribute personality profiles and original reporting segments.

Music-themed cable network, Fuse and part of the Madison Square Garden Company is creating a dedicated news division and welcoming a half-hour daily news shows to its lineup.  Fuse News will broadcast live, Monday through Friday from the channel’s studio on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan.  New York anchors include Ashanti, Elaine Moran and Alexa Chung while Jack Osbourne will anchor from Los Angeles.  An exact debut date for Fuse News was not announced.
