CNBC: Crime Inc. (Premiere) at 8pm

After airing two episodes of its dating show, 3 which delivered low ratings, CBS canceled the show. The network will air drama repeats at 9p on Sundays starting next week until The Good Wife debuts its new season on September 30. 3 premiered on July 26 with a preview episode drawing 2.4 million viewers and a 0.8 rating among A18-49 before moving to its Sunday slot this past weekend which declined further to 1.8 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating.

FX and producer Ryan Murphy unveiled yesterday the title of the new chapter of American Horror Story as American Horror Story: Asylum. The plot is set in 1964 and stars headlining the next installment include Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Zachary Quinto, James Cromwell and Joseph Fiennes. Principal photography commenced on July 17 and it will premiere in October. Twentieth Century Fox Television is producing.

Starring comedian and radio host, Rickey Smiley, TV One premieres The Rickey Smiley Show September 18 along with an all-star cast including Ray J, J. Anthony Brown, Lil JJ, Roz Ryan, Noree Victoria and Demetria McKinney. The show is based loosely on the life of Rickey Smiley, a local DJ based in Atlanta who is a single father to three children. The series is produced by Bobbcat Films for TV One.

New bridal series, I Found the Gown unveils its first episodes on TLC August 24 at 10p and 1030p. The eight-episode series is about brides as they shop for their dream dresses at the Boston-based bridal outlet VOWS. I Found the Gown is produced by Half Yard Productions, producers of the network’s Say Yes to the Dress franchise.

Author, playwright, essayist, screenwriter and political activist, Eugene Luther Gore Vidal died at the age of 86 Tuesday night at his home in the Hollywood Hills. Mr. Vidal was a contemporary to other literary greats such as Norman Mailer and Truman Capote and was also a major celebrity who became a fixture on talk shows and gossip columns. His works include hundreds of essays and best-selling novels such as Lincoln, Myra Breckenridge, The City and the Pillar and the Tony-nominated play, The Best Man which is currently experiencing a popular revival on Broadway. Mr. Vidal additionally wrote for television and was best known for penning the play Visit to a Small Planet for the Goodyear Television Playhouse in 1955. A year before in 1954, he wrote Dark Possession, a Studio One drama starring Geraldine Fitzgerald. CBS’ Studio One was an anthology series presenting a different drama each week.

Comedy writer from TV’s Golden Age, Sidney Reznick, died last Friday in Los Angeles, five days before his 93rd birthday. Mr. Reznick was a staff writer for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and he was on stage when Tiny Tim (known for the song Tiptoe Through the Tulips) wed Victoria Mae Budinger (aka Miss Vicki) on the late-show in December 1969. In 1957, Mr. Reznick created the comedic game show Sez Who? and also was on the staff of I’ve Got a Secret in the 1960s and wrote episodes of the television shows Beetle Bailey, Love, American Style, The Love Boat and The Odd Couple. He also wrote jokes for the likes of Jimmy Durante and Bob Hope and early in his career worked in radio with Al Jolson, Ethel Merman and Steve Allen among others. Mr. Reznick is survived by his sons, Bruce and Robert and two grandchildren.

In September, Current TV welcomes Joy Behar to the network in her new one-hour nightly series, Joy Behar: Say Anything! Tamar & Vince consists of ten one-hour episodes produced by Magical Elves. Braxton Family Values, also produced by Magical Elves returns with season three in first quarter 2013. Before its second season launch in syndication on September 10, Warner Bros.’ Anderson is receiving some tweaks and adding more live elements, reports B&C. The talk show, starring CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is changing its name to Anderson Live. Further changes include taping the show in front of a live studio audience and as previously- announced the show will feature different co-hosts each day. The show also has a new co-executive producer as George Davilas is joining from his previous post as senior supervising producer at CBS Television Distribution’s The Doctors. Celebrities booked for the second season include Richard Gere, Emma Watson, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Mindy Kaling, Kerry Washington and Stephen Colbert. TV stations cleared to air Anderson Live have received new promos revealing the changes to season two that will begin airing today. Furthermore, the show’s website will sport new features such as month-long photo sharing contest beginning August 6 and more social media initiatives are in store like Anderson Seat Tweets where fans attending the show will send out live tweets during the show.

CBS handed a script commitment for a new version of The Brady Bunch with Vince Vaughn on board as executive producer. The new multi-camera comedy reboot would center on the youngest Brady son, Bobby Brady who remarries and starts a new family. Mike Mariano (Raising Hope) will write the script and serve as EP along with Lloyd Schwartz, son of the late Sherwood Schwartz who created the original ABC sitcom which aired from 1969-1974. Vaughn, Victoria Vaughn and Peter Billingsley will also executive produce through Vaughn’s Wild West Picture Show Productions.

Until September 5, 2012 at 5p ET, musicians can submit their original songs at hgtv.pastemagazine.com for the chance to have their song selected to become HGTV’s new sound for the upcoming House Hunters International marketing and promotional campaign. The Be The New Sound of HGTV grand prize package includes: artist/band credit in HGTV’s press and promotional announcements for the campaign; a booking to play a Paste event during the 2013 SXSW Music Conference in August, TX; a session booking to play one of Daytrotter’s recording studio outposts; and a Live from Paste booking at Paste’s Decatur, GA headquarters or another location. Nine additional finalists may possibly have their music featured on HGTV. The winner will be selected in September.
