Late last week, NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno laid off 20 employees coming at a time when Comcast, NBC’s owner has been analyzing the network’s assets. Leno, who reportedly makes $30 million each year, has apparently also taken a pay cut. At this time, it is not clear which 20 staffers working on the show were let go.

ABC Family renewed Melissa & Joey for a third season and handed second season renewals to both Baby Daddy and Switched at Birth in addition to giving a back-order pick-up to Bunheads. The original dramas will return in the winter with the comedies back by spring 2013. Switched at Birth will also return with all new episodes on September 3 at 8p. It was also reported, ABC Family decided to not continue with Jane By Design. The fashion-themed drama, starring Erica Dasher and Andie MacDowell ended its first season containing 18 episodes in late July.

The second season of Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23 on ABC added Ben Lawson as a love interest for Krysten Ritter’s character Chloe. Lawson will recur during the second season as Jonathan and will first appear in the Halloween episode.

NBC’s spinoff of The Office titled The Farm cast Majandra Delfino (Roswell, Quarterlife) in the role as Fannie Schrute. The comedy is about Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) who is a beet farmer and owner of a bed and breakfast inn. Fannie is Dwight’s super left-thinking younger sister who previously fled from the Schrute farm to live in Boston.

Also for NBC’s midseason drama Do No Harm, based on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Samm Levine will reprise his role and become a recurring character following his guest-starring turn in the pilot episode. Levine’s character is Josh, an administrative assistant to the brilliant neurosurgeon, Dr. Jason Cole (Steven Pasquale) who wrestles with his dangerous alter-ego.

In a much anticipated casting, Ciaran Hinds landed the role as Wilding leader Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall in HBO’s Game of Thrones. To date, Rayder’s character has been referenced to on the series but never seen. Hinds has been in many films including Munich (2005) and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) though is familiar with TV viewers as Julius Caesar in the HBO series Rome and most recently playing the former POTUS in USA Network’s Political Animals.

Showtime’s one-hour series Shameless from John Wells will see Vanessa Bell Calloway returning for the drama’s third season. Calloway will appear in close to half of the third season’s episodes as well as the season finale playing Carol, the mother of Veronica. Production is currently happening on Shameless which is slated to premiere the new season in 2013.

BET’s comedy pilot What Would Dylan Do (wt) hired former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland in the role as Dylan, a struggling Los Angeles-based relationship blogger who lives with her BFF Cherise (Gabrielle Dennis) and a wealthy, divorced roommate Brooke (Melanie Liburd). Brandon Scott will play Dylan’s neighbor and Cherise’s boyfriend Ryan.
