Filmmaker Christopher Guest, best known for his quirky sense of humor in such films as Waiting for Guffman (1996) and Best in Show (2000) among others, sold a series to HBO which the premium network ordered straight-to-series. The documentary-style comedy has half-hour episodes and is titled Family Tree. Starring Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids), Family Tree centers on a recently jobless and single 30-something guy who begins investigating his family lineage after receiving a mysterious box from a great aunt he never met. This uncovers a number of unusual stories about his ancestors which help him establish an identity. Guest and co-EP Jim Piddock will appear on the series which will also air on BBC2. Karen Murphy is also on board as co-producer. HBO has not stated when Family Tree will premiere.
