Ron Palillo, best known for playing Horshak, one of the Sweathogs on the 1970s sitcom, Welcome Back, Kotter died Monday night in Palm Beach, FL. He was 63. Starting in 1975, Mr. Palillo was one of the oddball students who plagued Mr. Kotter (Gabe Kaplan) for four seasons on the ABC comedy. Mr. Palillo’s character was the nasally-voiced Arnold Dingfelder Horshack who was always the first to raise his hand in class with his “Ooo-ooo-oooooh!” After Welcome Back, Kotter, Mr. Palillo guest-starred on a variety of shows including The A-Team, CHiPs and Murder, She Wrote and in 1996, played himself on several episodes of Ellen. Also in 2002, Mr. Palillo agreed to appear and box Dustin Diamond for an episode of Celebrity Boxing billed as Horshack vs. Screech. During recent years, he also showed up in various TV Land nostalgia specials. Perhaps his most rewarding role though was teaching drama at the G-STAR School of the Arts for Motion Pictures and Broadcasting, a charter high school in West Palm Beach.
