DISCOVERY: Off The Hook: Extreme Catches (Premiere) at 9pm

Friday’s opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics from London broadcast on NBC has become the most-watched opening ceremony for a Summer Games ever. NBC averaged 40.7 million total viewers from 8p to midnight, based on Nielsen fast nationals. This total viewer count represents a +17% bump over the 2008 Beijing Games which averaged 34.9 million viewers.

Late last week, ABC revealed twelve of the celebrities participating in the next edition of Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars consisting of former winners and fan favorites. The 13th celebrity will be voted on by fans and the three celebrities vying for that spot are Sabrina Bryan, Carson Kressley and Kyle Massey. Fans of the show can vote for one of these three in the Viewers’ Choice: All-Star at www.ABC.com/DancingwiththeStars from now through August 24 at 12p. The final cast member will be announced live on Good Morning America August 27. The dozen celebrities joining the show which premieres September 24 at 8p include: Kirstie Alley, Pamela Anderson, Helio Castroneves, Joey Fatone, Shawn Johnson, Drew Lachey, Gilles Marini, Kelly Monaco, Apolo Anton Ohno, Bristol Palin, Melissa Rycroft and Emmitt Smith.

AMC’s The Killing will not be renewed for a third season. The network announced the news on Friday and released this statement: “After much deliberation, we’ve come to the difficult decision not to renew The Killing for a third season. AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from show-runner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast.” Fox TV Studios produced the series.

Update from ABC’s Modern Family: the six adult cast members, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara have ironed out their salary renegotiations with 20th Century Fox Television. This salary deal also has resulted in the six actors dropping their lawsuit against 20th Television which they filed early last week.

Beginning this fall, Norah O’Donnell will become Co-Host of CBS This Morning joining Charlie Rose and Gayle King. O’Donnell has been CBS News’ Chief White House Correspondent since June 2011. CBS News Chairman and 60 Minutes Executive Producer Jeff Fager said, “This is a very exciting development for our morning program and for all of CBS News. Norah is an accomplished reporter with all the skills for the job. She’s a hard worker who knows her story and, as she has shown time after time at the White House, she can think on her feet on live television.” Erica Hill who has been a co-host of CBS This Morning and assisted with its launch is in discussions with CBS News about a new role. O’Donnell will additionally continue as the primary substitute anchor for Face the Nation and will also continue to report for all CBS News broadcasts and platforms.

Former CBS News anchor Katie Couric will be launching her new daytime talk show, Katie in national syndication September 10. The one-hour show, distributed by Disney-ABC Domestic Television has been cleared in 95% of the US and will broadcast live from New York City in front of a live studio audience. Couric additionally serves as executive producer along with Jeff Zucker. At the TCA press tour yesterday in Los Angeles, Couric also revealed her show will feature a theme song, This Day composed by Sheryl Crow and her collaborator Jeff Trott and also performed by Crow.

Lifetime’s upcoming new series The Week the Women Went has moved its premiere date to August 14 at 10p following Dance Moms. Jeff Foxworthy narrates the five-episode series that explores what happens in an American town when all the women leave and the men have to run the households, businesses and community. BBC Worldwide Productions is producing. In addition, the recently-announced new docu-series Prom Queens will rejoin Lifetime’s schedule at a later date. The Week the Women Went was previously scheduled to bow on August 15 and Prom Queens on August 14.

Cast members of ABC’s sitcom Modern Family, including those who are embroiled in a lawsuit against the show’s production company as part of the current contract renegotiations that happened earlier this week, were all together at yesterday’s scheduled table read. The first cast gathering for season four was supposed to take place on Tuesday but was moved to Thursday because of the contract talks. The move on the actor’s part was reportedly viewed as a good-faith gesture and talks between the actors’ representatives and 20th Century Fox Television will likely resume later this week.
