DISCOVERY: Off The Hook: Extreme Catches (Premiere) at 9pm

Friday’s opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics from London broadcast on NBC has become the most-watched opening ceremony for a Summer Games ever. NBC averaged 40.7 million total viewers from 8p to midnight, based on Nielsen fast nationals. This total viewer count represents a +17% bump over the 2008 Beijing Games which averaged 34.9 million viewers.

Late last week, ABC revealed twelve of the celebrities participating in the next edition of Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars consisting of former winners and fan favorites. The 13th celebrity will be voted on by fans and the three celebrities vying for that spot are Sabrina Bryan, Carson Kressley and Kyle Massey. Fans of the show can vote for one of these three in the Viewers’ Choice: All-Star at www.ABC.com/DancingwiththeStars from now through August 24 at 12p. The final cast member will be announced live on Good Morning America August 27. The dozen celebrities joining the show which premieres September 24 at 8p include: Kirstie Alley, Pamela Anderson, Helio Castroneves, Joey Fatone, Shawn Johnson, Drew Lachey, Gilles Marini, Kelly Monaco, Apolo Anton Ohno, Bristol Palin, Melissa Rycroft and Emmitt Smith.

AMC’s The Killing will not be renewed for a third season. The network announced the news on Friday and released this statement: “After much deliberation, we’ve come to the difficult decision not to renew The Killing for a third season. AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from show-runner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast.” Fox TV Studios produced the series.

Update from ABC’s Modern Family: the six adult cast members, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara have ironed out their salary renegotiations with 20th Century Fox Television. This salary deal also has resulted in the six actors dropping their lawsuit against 20th Television which they filed early last week.

NBC’s The Office tapped Jake Lacy (Better With You) as a series regular for the ninth season. Details on Lacy’s character have not been disclosed though he will play a new hire named Pete who could be a potential love interest for Erin (Ellie Kemper).
