A new original series Toy Hunter delves into the world of buying and selling toys and collectibles when it premieres August 15 at 10p with back-to-back episodes on Travel Channel. Following its premiere, Toy Hunter moves to its regular time slot of 9p Wednesdays starting August 22. The weekly, half-hour program follows toy dealer Jordan Hembrough, owner of the New Jersey-based vintage and modern collectibles company Hollywood Heroes. Hembrough travels the country looking for valuable collectibles, even looking through attics and garages. During eight episodes, Hembrough will look for rare toys such as Jurassic Park Prototypes from 1994, a Care Bears Treat Heart Pig from 1982 and a #1 Barbie still in the box with brunette hair from 1959. Toy Hunter is produced for Travel Channel by Sharp Entertainment.

New African-American television network, ASPiRE from Magic Johnson Enterprises reveals its first original series titled ABFF Independent. The show is a weekly two-hour program hosted by actor Omari Hardwick showcasing independent shorts, feature films and documentaries from emerging black artists. ABFF Independent will premiere June 27, the network’s launch date, with stacked episodes beginning at 8p. The series will then air on Mondays at 8p with encore airings on Mondays at 11p as well as Saturdays at 2p, 8p and 11p and the following Monday at 2p. ABFF Independent is from LeftCenter Entertainment, Inc.

Later this summer, TV One welcomes new reality series R&B Divas to its lineup beginning August 20 at 10p. The series chronicles the lives of five R&B stars Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Monifah Carter, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt. The one-hour eight-episode series was filmed primarily in Atlanta with some production happening in Washington, D.C., New York and New Orleans. Thinkfactory Media produces the series for TV One.

Sunday’s series premiere of The Newsroom on HBO tallied a gross audience of 2.7 million viewers across two plays, with 2.1 million for the 10p premiere episode and another 513,000 for the 1115p encore.

On Saturday night, HLN drew in 912,000 total viewers for the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards. This was the first time the awards shows had aired on a cable network and last year the event was watched by 5.5 million viewers on CBS. Despite the much lower number of viewers, the Daytime Emmy® Awards show gave HLN its most-watched regularly scheduled non-news broadcast in the network’s history. Nielsen also reports, 2.0 million viewers watched the five airings of the Daytime Emmys® on HLN.

Former E.R. star Maura Tierney is joining CBS’ The Good Wife in a recurring role. Tierney will play a self-made millionaire and power player in Chicago Democratic politics. Also joining the series is British actor Marc Warren (Band of Brothers) portraying Kalinda’s (Archie Panjabi) ex-husband. Tierney and Warren will both make their debuts on the series during the fourth season opener in September.

Former host of TLC’s Trading Spaces, Paige Davis was selected as co-host for Hallmark Channel’s new Original Lifestyle series, Home & Family. Davis will serve as co-host along with journalist Mark Steines when Home & Family debuts weekdays starting October 1. Home & Family will be a part of Hallmark Channel’s Lifestyle block of programming and will consist of 220 original two-hour shows airing over 44 weeks. Home & Family is produced by Woody Fraser Productions (Good Morning America, Nightline, The Dick Cavett Show). Davis has also starred on Broadway in the revival of Boeing Boeing and prior to that traveled the US performing in Sweet Charity among other stage roles. She currently hosts Home Made Simple on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
