Yesterday, the broadcast networks ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, TeleFutura, Telemundo and Univision revealed their plans to offer additional content ratings tools to give parents more decision-making power for their family’s TV viewing. Parents will be able to use the TV ratings system when children watch broadcast television programs via the internet. The networks will offer the ratings information for all full-length entertainment programs that stream on their websites. Each broadcast company will determine its own systems and the TV ratings will appear at the beginning of full-length video programs and also in the online programming descriptions. Network websites will additionally include or link to ratings system information. These new ratings will go into effect starting December 1, 2012.

During yesterday’s ABC’s Good Morning America, co-host Robin Roberts announced she has been diagnosed with MDS or myelodysplastic syndrome, a disease of the blood and bone marrow which was formerly known as preleukemia. This announcement comes five years after Roberts survived breast cancer. Roberts released a statement following the GMA broadcast and in part said, “As many of you know, 5 years ago I beat breast cancer. I’ve always been a fighter, and with all of your prayers and support, a winner… My doctors tell me I’m going to beat this — and I know it’s true.”

Joy Behar, co-host of ABC’s The View will host a new one-hour series, The Joy Behar Show (wt) on Current TV beginning this September. The Joy Behar Show will air nightly Monday through Thursday at 6p and will repeat the same evening in primetime. The series will feature topical news and issues along with Behar’s sense of humor and perspective as she discusses the latest headlines, pop culture events and more with a rotating group of journalists, analysts and political satirists. More details on the show’s ensemble cast, official title and premiere date will be revealed later this summer. In addition, Behar will guest anchor a week on Current TV while Governor Eliot Spitzer, host of Viewpoint will be on a scheduled vacation. New competition reality series, Super Saver Showdown debuts on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on July 20 at 9p. DIY expert Kristan Cunningham (Design on a Dime) hosts the series that features two bargain hunters as they compete to see which one has the best coupon clipping, super saving, DIY skills to help their families throw fun parties on a budget. Super Saver Showdown is produced by Glassman Media.

The season five finale of Mad Men on AMC airing Sunday night marked the highest-rated finale in the series history with 2.7 million viewers; 1.4 million with A25-54; and a 2.0 HH rating. The fifth season of Mad Men was also the most-watched season to date with an average of 2.6 million viewers, an increase of +15% over the fourth season’s average.

Also on Sunday, HBO opened a fifth season of True Blood at 9p which attracted 5.2 million viewers which was a decline of -4% over the season four premiere. The season opener of True Blood did post +3% better than the season four finale episode. Combined with the 11p encore, True Blood tallied a total of 6.3 million total viewers for the night. At 10p, HBO aired the first season finale of Veep which totaled 1.1 million viewers and the 12a replay drew in an additional 288,000 viewers.

Shakespeare in Love star Joseph Fiennes in is negotiations to appear in the second season of FX’s American Horror Story as a regular. Fiennes would play the head of the institution for the criminally insane where star Jessica Lange works and would also have an amorous relationship with Lange’s character.

Alexandra Krosney who played the eldest daughter of Tim Allen’s character on ABC’s comedy Last Man Standing, will not be returning for the second season, per TVLine. The actress was let go for creative reasons and the role will be recast. In the next season, Last Man Standing is moving to Fridays at 8p and paired with new comedy Malibu Country starring Reba McEntrie.

Veteran comedy character actor, Frank Cady, best known as the general store owner on the classic sitcom Green Acres died at home in Wilsonville, OR. Mr. Cady was 96. Mr. Cady played the character Sam Drucker in Green Acres from 1965 to 1971 and he played the same character in two other classic sitcoms, Petticoat Junction and The Beverly Hillbillies. He also appeared in the TV show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet in the recurring role as Doc Williams. Mr. Cady and his wife, Shirley moved to Oregon in the 1990s. Mrs. Cady died in 2008.

CASTING CALL
Nationally-syndicated morning show LIVE! with Kelly is conducting a nationwide search for one viewer to be a co-host for a day with Kelly Ripa in the show’s LIVE’s Coast-To-Coast Co-Host Search. The search began yesterday and viewers can submit video entries, online or by mail, of up to 60-seconds in length showing why they should have a chance to co-host with Kelly. Participants are encouraged to be creative and show their best hosting techniques. The deadline to enter is June 29. The top five finalists will be announced July 11 and the co-host finalists will travel to New York during the week of July 16 to compete for a chance to become Kelly’s guest co-host on July 24.
