The real-life brother duo, Tom and Ray Magliozzi, otherwise known as Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers and hosts of NPR’s weekly show Car Talk announced they are retiring from the show. The brothers have been taping their show for the last 35 years beginning with WBUR in Boston and then the show went national on NPR member stations 25 years ago. NPR said in a statement that it will continue to distribute the show to stations nationwide in weekly syndication. Starting in October, the Car Talk production team will produce new shows compiled from the 25-year archive comprised of more than 1,200 shows. The new shows will also include some updates on Tom and Ray. The brothers will continue to write their twice weekly, Dear Tom and Ray column and have a presence online and on Facebook.

SHOWTIME’s summer schedule includes the premiere dates for five returning series: Weeds season 8 opens July 1 at 10p with 13 half-hour eps; the second season opener of Episodes from Hat Trick airs on July 1 at 1030p with nine half-hour episodes; the second season of Web Therapy debuts July 2 at 11p with 11 half-hour episodes; then on July 11 the one-hour second season premiere episode of The Franchise airs at 10p with the season consisting of 7 other half-hour episodes; and The Real L Word bows its third season on July 12 at 10p with 9 one-hour episodes from Magical Elves.

NBC has picked up a modern-day series about the Hatfields & McCoys from actress Charlize Theron and her Denver and Delilah Productions company. The project would be produced by ABC Studios where Theron has an overall deal. Dawn Olmstead and Beau Flynn are also involved as producers and John Glenn will write. Theron so far is attached as a producer.

Three actors are joining a trio of SHOWTIME programs: Valerie Cruz, who has appeared in multiple episodes on True Blood and Dexter, is joining Homeland during season two as Major Joy Mendez. Cruz’ role begins as a guest starring stint that may become a recurring role. Matt Gerald (Avatar, The Shield) will be a part of Dexter’s cast for the seventh season. He will play a blue-collar violent criminal in a multi-episode run. Gerald is also in the new ABC drama Last Resort. For Californication, Maggie Grace was just added as a professional muse to rock bands. Newcomer Meghan Falcone is joining to play a groupie roommate named Shari to Grace’s role.
