New summer dating series The Choice will debut on FOX with six one-hour episodes starting June 7 at 9p. The premise of the show has contestants participating in blind auditions before four celebrity judges who are seated in spinning chairs. The celebrities will audition their potential love interests from among attractive contestants though the network has yet to reveal the celebrities involved. In a twist, five of the episodes will feature male celebrities with female contestants and one episode will have female celebrities and male contestants. Cat Deeley is set to host The Choice adding this hosting gig to her current job as host of So You Think You Can Dance this summer. Mike Darnell and A. Smith & Co. are producing The Choice.

The CW renewed three series for the 2012-2013 season: Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and 90210. These three dramas join already renewed reality series America’s Next Top Model. The pickups give Supernatural its eighth season; a fifth season on tap for 90210; and a fourth season for the network’s highest-rated show The Vampire Diaries.

Comedy series How to Be a Gentlemen starring Kevin Dillon and David Hornsby is getting a reprieve from CBS as the network will air back-to-back episodes, #4 and #5 specifically on May 26 at 8p and 830p. The series originally made its first season debut late last September though posted A18-49 ratings at 33% lower compared to $#*! My Dad Says the previous year.

The finale episode delivered the highest rated episode of the season among all key demos as well as 1.1 million total viewers. Later this month, a second season of romantic comedy series Single Ladies, from Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment returns to VH1’s schedule starting May 28 at 9p. Single Ladies is the network’s first one-hour scripted series and it stars LisaRaye McCoy as Keisha and Charity Shea as April along with new addition to the series, Denise Vasi playing Raquel. Queen Latifah who serves as EP will also appear on the series.

Lifetime’s upcoming Original Movie The June Carter Cash Story (wt) tapped singer/songwriter/actress Jewel to play the lead role of June Carter Cash, the legendary country music artist and wife to Johnny Cash (Matt Ross). The original movie is based on John Carter Cash’s narrative about his mother’s life titled Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash. The project is produced by Asylum Entertainment and filming begins early this summer in Atlanta and the movie will premiere later this year.

CASTING CALL
CENTRIC from BET Networks is hosting auditions for the new original series, Apollo Live. Comedian/actor Tony Rock is hosting the show which is inspired by the Apollo’s famous Amateur Night. The show will feature judges including R&B producer/artist Michael Bivins and hip-hop star Doug E. Fresh. The first auditions will take place this weekend, May 5 and 6 in New York at the Apollo Theater between 8a and 4p. Other upcoming auditions will happen on May 8 and 9 in Washington, D.C.; May 11 and 12 in Chicago; and May 19 and 20 in Atlanta.
