FX is placing its anthology series, American Horror Story in the miniseries category for the next Emmy Awards. According to the network, American Horror Story qualifies as a miniseries even though it could compete in the drama category. Last year, the PBS series Downton Abbey swept the miniseries category winning several Emmys though this next year it will be placed in the drama category competing against such drama series as AMC’s Mad Men and others.

Cast in a new TV role, Alyssa Milano will next be seen in ABC’s new drama series Mistresses. Milano plays Savannah, a successful married attorney who spends long nights working with her attractive new law partner. Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes and Jes Macallan play the other three females leads. Also joining Mistresses is Jason George, playing Milano’s character’s husband while Brett Tucker was cast to play her lover. Mistresses is set to premiere in summer 2013.

CBS’ CSI: Miami co-star Eva LaRue was selected to guest star in ABC’s untitled Mandy Moore comedy pilot. She will play Veronica, one of Annie’s (Moore) sisters. LaRue has an option on the ABC pilot to become a regular cast member should the pilot be picked up to series. The Moore project is in first position for LaRue to her role on CSI: Miami.

Saturday Night Live alum Jenny Slate joined the CBS comedy Super Fun Night about three nerdy female friends on their weekly quest to have a “super fun” time each Friday night. The project is from writer/co-EP and star Rebel Wilson. Slate will play Helen-Alice, best friend to Wilson’s character Kimmie. The multi-camera comedy is from Conan O’Brien’s Conaco in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Musical drama series Smash received a second season renewal from NBC. The series, produced by Universal Television in association with DreamWorks Television and Madwoman in the Attic, is NBC’s top-rated drama among A18-49 and total viewers. Smash, airing on Mondays at 10p, is up 160% in the demo versus the network’s season average in the time period and with total viewers Smash has increased the time period by 100% (7.7 million vs. 3.9 million).

FOX is pulling its first season sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter altogether from its schedule. FOX originally took the comedy off its April schedule though was still airing a couple episodes on Tuesdays. In its place on Tuesdays starting next week, FOX will air repeats of Raising Hope.

Romance and match-making take to the seas in Lifetime’s new docu-dating series Love for Sail debuting April 10 at 10p. The one-hour show follows single women as they board a Norwegian Cruise Line ship looking for love while cruising in the tropics. This July, GMC TV, offering inspirational music and family entertainment is moving its headquarters to new offices in College Park, a suburb of Atlanta.
