A joint 10-year agreement between CBS, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) and dick clark productions was forged involving the annual Academy of Country Music Awards broadcast on CBS through 2021. There has been a broadcast partnership between CBS and the ACM since 1998.

Based on its ratings success, VH1 is adding a half-hour post-show to its series Mob Wives beginning this Sunday. Titled Mob Wives: The Sit Down, the show will air at 9p directly following the one-hour reality series Mob Wives. The post-show is hosted by VH1’s Carrie Keagan and will feature two or three of the wives each week in addition to a celebrity guest to discuss the episode immediately after it airs. The post-show will also include some exclusive behind-the-scenes information. VH1 has initially ordered 7 episodes of the post-show which is produced by TWC, Electus, Left/Right and JustJenn Productions, the companies behind Mob Wives the future series Mob Wives: Chicago.

Executive producer Simon Cowell, behind The X Factor, American Idol and America’s Got Talent among others is developing another reality competition series, this time an untitled project searching for the world’s best DJ. Cowell’s company, SYCO Entertainment is working with Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television to premiere the format which will be shopped internationally and in the US.

Actor James Farentino died on Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 73. Mr. Farentino had recurring roles on such television series as Dynasty, Melrose Place, The Bold Ones: The Lawyers and ER. In the latter series, he played the estranged father to George Clooney’s character. In 1978, Mr. Farentino was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role of Saint Peter in the TV miniseries, Jesus of Nazareth. Mr. Farentino also starred or appeared in numerous feature films and in 1967 won a “Most Promising Newcomer” Golden Globe Award for his performance in the comedy The Pad and How to Use It.

SUBMISSIONS CALL
GMC, featuring uplifting music and family entertainment programming, is teaming with the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) on the second annual GMC Faith and Family Screenplay Competition. The competition promotes faith-friendly family entertainment screenplays with a focus on the American Black cultural experience. Submissions for the GMC Faith and Family Screenplay Competition are being solicited now through March 15 by the ABFF via the organization’s website at: http://abff.com/festival/ and newsletter. All eligible screenplays received will be sent to GMC for review by a panel that will choose three finalists. The three finalists will have portions of their screenplays performed by actors in attendance at the festival and in front of a live audience of festival attendees and industry leaders. One Grand Prize winner will receive $5,000. Entries should be formatted for a two-hour television movie and be centered on faith-friendly, family-friendly topics that focus on the American Black cultural experience with a broad appeal relating inspiring stories such as romantic comedies, comedies, dramas and family adventures. RLTV, the cable network targeting persons 50+ will team with NBC News to co-produce a new show hosted by journalist and author Jean Chatzky titled Cash Call With Jean Chatzky. The new weekly half-hour program will premiere February 28 at 8p exclusively on RLTV. Cash Call With Jean Chatzky is a live consumer finance show offering practical advice on how to manage money. Chatzky, who is the financial editor for NBC News’ Today Show and the author of seven books, will be joined by other financial experts as she takes calls, answers emails, Skypes and Tweets with viewers around the country.

The recently-debuted primetime series, Oprah’s Next Chapter on OWN is expanding to two nights airing on Sundays and Mondays during February. In the series, Oprah Winfrey has in-depth conversations with newsmakers, celebrities, leaders and real-life families. The second part of her interviews will air on Mondays beginning January 30 at 10p. The upcoming schedule includes Oprah interviewing Sean Penn in Haiti on January 29 at 9p followed by Hope in Haiti on January 30 at 10p.

FOX Television Stations and Warner Bros. are teaming to premiere a six-week preview of the new talk show Bethenny hosted by author/entrepreneur and reality star, Bethenny Frankel. The preview will kick off this summer and the daily one-hour talk show will air on select FOX-owned stations in markets including New York and Los Angeles. Bethenny will be broadcast from Burbank and will highlight Bethenny’s perspective on pop culture and current events as well as relationships, beauty, fitness and lifestyle segments. After NBC aired the special airing of G4’s American Ninja Warrior finale last summer, NBC and G4 are continuing and expanding their partnership on the series for 2012. This summer, G4 will air the preliminary rounds and NBC is set to air the preliminary finals in addition to the grand finale. The new season of American Ninja Warrior marks the first time the competition is being held entirely in the US. A. Smith & Co. Productions returns to produce the fourth season of American Ninja Warrior with the company founders Arthur Smith and Kent Weed serving as executive producers.

Ben Stiller is turning his attention to HBO where he will star, direct and executive produce a new comedy pilot called All Talk. Novelist Jonathan Safran Foer is behind the project which is described as “politically, religiously, culturally, intellectually and sexually irreverent” and is about the dramas of a Jewish family in Washington, D.C. Alan Alda is presently in negotiations to star in the series. Production on the pilot is tentatively slated for this fall. Stiller and Foer in addition to Scott Rudin and Eli Bush will all serve as EPs.

The upcoming drama series Touch starring Kiefer Sutherland is getting an international launch plan next month for its premiere. Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, FOX, FOX One, 20th Century Fox Television and FOX International Channels are all working together on the worldwide launch of the series which will premiere nearly simultaneously in more than 100 countries. To coincide with the launch, Sutherland will embark on an international media tour conducting interviews in major cities across Europe and culminating in a global media event in New York City on March 18. Unilever has also signed to become the series’ global advertising sponsor. FOX will air a special preview of Touch this Wednesday at 9p ahead of the series’ premiere on March 19 at 9p. The international launch will take place the week of March 19. Touch is a production of Chernin Entertainment and Tailwind Productions, in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

TLC picked up the series Sorority Girls which follows five American society girls as they attempt to establish the first sorority, Sigma Gamma in the UK. Premiering January 31 at 9p, the 8-week series goes to Leeds and documents the girl’s recruiting efforts to see if this “Go Greek” American custom can mix with traditional British culture. Sorority Girls is produced by 12 Yard Productions.

Sean “Diddy” Combs has plans to launch a new music-themed cable network called Revolt with a projected launch date later this year on 12/12/12. The channel is described as a music and music news network with an urban skew that will aim at African Americans. Former MTV programming executive Andy Schuon is also involved with the project. Distribution has already been secured via Comcast and apparently through Time Warner Cable.

Production on Food Network’s eighth season of Food Network Star has begun and the new season is set to premiere May 13. Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis are back and will join new regular Alton Brown as they all participate this season in a three-way team competition to find the next Food Network Star. Bobby, Giada and Alton will each chose a team of five finalists who they will mentor through the show. In the new season, viewers will also vote before the finale to help determine who will win the grand prize, their own Food Network show which will be produced by their celebrity team leader. Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson are both returning as judges along with a roster of guest judges. CBS EYE too Productions produces the competition series which will be shot on-location in New York and Miami.
