ABC cancelled Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, ending the show with its ninth season finale on January 13 which also is the show’s 200th episode. At its conclusion, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition visits tornado-torn Joplin, MO where Ty Pennington and his crew build seven homes in seven days. Viewers will still see more of the show as ABC has four special episodes planned after the series ends. Pennington will also remain with ABC as he joined the network’s upcoming new health and lifestyle daytime series, The Revolution. Beginning January 20, ABC will put Shark Tank in the Friday at 8p slot.

Making it official, NBC is tapping Howard Stern to become a new judge on its summer reality competition series America’s Got Talent. Stern is replacing Piers Morgan who left to concentrate on his CNN program. Production on America’s Got Talent will also move to New York City where Stern presently hosts his SiriusXM radio show.

The interview series, Person to Person, created by Edward R. Murrow is being resurrected by CBS and is premiering February 8 at 8p. New CBS This Morning co-host Charlie Rose and CBS News Chief Foreign Affairs correspondent/60 Minutes correspondent Lara Logan will co-host the weekly series airing on Wednesdays at 8p. For years, CBS has apparently wanted to revive Person to Person, the series where interviews of public figures are conducted in their homes. Rose and Logan will interview musicians, actors, directors, politicians and newsmakers and allow the guests to reveal friends and family and items of personal and professional worth. Murrow launched the series in 1953 and interviewed such notables as John and Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and more.

British comedian/actor Russell Brand signed a deal with FX to host a late night series. FX ordered six half-hour episodes of the yet-to-be-titled unscripted series slated to premiere next spring. The show will offer Brand’s version of current events, politics and pop culture shot in front of a live audience and featuring interaction with the studio audience. FX Productions is producing the show in association with Branded Films and Dakota Films.

In mid-January, G4 bows another new Marvel anime series when Blade debuts January 13 at 11p. G4 has scheduled a dozen half-hour weekly episodes featuring the voice of Harold Perrineau as Eric Brooks, the supernatural Daywalker known as Blade. Produced by Madhouse for Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan, the series is distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

Oscar winner Jane Fonda will make her first major television debut in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming HBO series about the cable news business. The untitled one-hour drama already has Jeff Daniels in place playing the anchor at a fictional cable news network. Fonda will portray Leona Lansing, the CEO of the cable news network’s parent company who is described as a titan and her corporate business often conflicts with the reporting at the news outlet she owns.

CMT handed a pair of half-hour reality shows to Melissa Rycroft (The Bachelorette) and Jennie Garth (Beverly Hills, 90210). Rycroft will star in a show along with her husband Tye Strickland using the working title, Melissa and Tye: A New Reality. The show will follow Rycroft when she moves to L.A. to pursue her Hollywood career while managing a long-distance relationship with her husband. Garth’s show is called I Love Jennie and will follow her and her family of three kids and husband as they move away from L.A. to a seven-acre farm in Central California. Both shows were given eight episodes and will premiere in April. Rycroft’s show is produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions with Ryan Seacrest and CMT’s Jayson Dinsmore and Eliot Goldberg as executive producers. Garth’s show is from Electus, 5×5 and Facinelli Films and will be executive produced by Electus’ Ben Silverman and Jimmy Fox; 5×5 EPs Rick Ringbakk and Craig Armstrong; and Facinelli Films’ Peter Facinelli (Garth’s husband), Garth and Rob de Franco as executive producers. Dinsmore and Goldberg will also oversee for CMT.

The NFL and CBS forged a new deal encompassing a nine-year broadcast rights agreement through the 2022 season allowing CBS Sports to remain as the broadcast home of the NFL’s American Football Conference (AFC). Furthermore, the NFL’s increased “flexible scheduling” will allow CBS to broadcast games from the National Football Conference (NFC), marking the first time CBS will broadcast both AFC and NFC games in the same season. CBS additionally gained the broadcast rights to four future Super Bowl events including Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans in 2013, Super Bowl L in 2016, Super Bowl LIII in 2019 and Super Bowl LVI in 2022. This deal also has the distinction of being the longest pact made between the NFL and its broadcast partners.

When NBC’s thirteenth season of The Biggest Loser makes a comeback on January 3 with a two-hour premiere at 8p, the participants arriving at the ranch will be in teams of two. Teams comprised of mother/daughter, father/son, brother/sister and husband/wife will arrive together though will be matched up with other participants and competing with the person they came with. Each contestant will share the same goal, to lose weight and get healthy and perhaps win the $250,000 grand prize. The Biggest Loser is from Reveille, 25/7 Productions and 3 Ball Productions.
