The first new show out of the gate receiving a full-season pickup is FOX’s comedy New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel. FOX gave the sitcom an additional 11 episodes taking the frosh season order up to 24 total episodes. New Girl will remain in its Tuesday night spot next week then FOX is moving the show for two weeks to air on Wednesdays at 930p after The X Factor.

Discovery Channel heads back to the Land of the Midnight Sun (aka Alaska) for a second season of Gold Rush launching October 28 at 9p. From Raw Television, the second season of Gold Rush is preceded with a special on October 28 at 8p that depicts what the gold miners did in between the mining seasons.

Sunday’s third season bow of Sister Wives on TLC at 9p delivered a 2.4 rating with W25-54 and W18-49 as well as a 2.3 rating with W18-34. The premiere episode also drew in 2.8 million total viewers. New episodes of Sister Wives continue on TLC Sundays at 9p.

Broadway star Sutton Foster nabbed the lead role in ABC Family’s pilot Bunheads from Amy Sherman-Palladino. Foster will play Michelle, a Las Vegas showgirl who on the fly marries a man and moves to his small town and takes an uncomfortable job at her new mother-in-law’s dance school. Foster is presently starring in the revival of Anything Goes that earned her a Tony Award.

Stand-up comedian Dane Cook forged a new talent deal with NBC and he is also developing a half-hour comedy for next season’s lineup. Details are sketchy at this point. Cook recently appeared on CBS’ Hawaii Five-O.
