A third season of The Big C was approved by Showtime with ten new episodes commencing production early next year. The comedy series starring Laura Linney is currently in its second season which concludes September 26. Season three will open in second quarter 2012. The Big C is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Season two of Extreme Couponing is back on TLC starting September 28 at 10p with 12 all-new episodes. TLC will air a sneak preview of the new season on September 12 at 10p following the series finale of Kate Plus 8 at 9p. Sharp Entertainment produces the series which averaged 1.9 million total viewers for its first season.

With school back on for most students nationwide, MTV premieres a new half-hour game show series, The Substitute starting September 12 at 430p. In each episode, unsuspecting students discover their substitute teacher really is not a substitute and instead of normal class they will be competing in a series of trivia and interactive challenges for the chance to win a cash prize of $5,000. The show will air weekdays at 430p hosted by comedian Jon Gabrus.

This holiday weekend, ABC is behind a stunt to promote its new drama series Revenge which is set in the Hamptons. Today and on Saturday, ABC will offer New Yorkers waiting to board Hampton Jitney buses a printed script of the first episode of Revenge plus a Revenge beach towel for their Hampton weekend. Revenge debuts September 21 at 10p on ABC.
