Today is the 30th Anniversary of MTV. The network launched on August 1, 1981.
Reality docu-series Hard Knocks from HBO Sports and NFL Films has been cancelled this year due to the NFL’s uncertain summer schedule resulting from the recent labor dispute. The five-part series, following one NFL team during preseason training, will return next year. Instead, HBO will air a 90-minute special episode of Hard Knocks with footage from previous seasons on August 31 at 10p.

Rosie O’Donnell’s new daily talk show, The Rosie Show on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network is kicking off October 10 at 7p followed by the premiere of OWN Your Life (the oprah class) at 8p. Both shows will air Monday through Friday on OWN. OWN Your Life (the oprah class), previously titled Oprah’s Encore, will sport a companion online class along with the series including course work on Oprah.com. As of now, interested viewers can sign up to reserve a spot in the class via Oprah.com. The show’s goal is to have 1 million viewers signed to take the class which begins with the show’s premiere. The Rosie Show is produced by Harpo Studios in association with KidRo Productions, Inc. and SantaBu Productions. Harpo Productions is behind OWN Your Life (the oprah class).

Thursday’s season nine debut of Project Runway on Lifetime averaged 2.7 million total viewers, a +8% increase over the previous season’s premiere. Project Runway’s opening episode also pulled in 1.5 million A25-54 viewers and 1.4 million among A18-49.

For the final season of NBC’s Chuck, Adam Baldwin’s character gets a love interest/foil played Carrie-Anne Moss (Matrix). Moss’ character is Gertrude Verbanski, a former spy who now runs Verbanski Corp. a rival company to Chuck and Sarah’s new business.

CASTING CALL
Food Network approved an eighth season of its reality series Food Network Star. A nationwide talent search inviting professional and amateur chefs to apply has launched. Open casting call audition dates also are announced for this summer in multiple cities: August 3 in Chicago; August 5 in New York; August 8 in Washington, D.C.; August 20 in Las Vegas; August 28 in Los Angeles; August 30 in Honolulu; and September 10 in Austin. Interested participants should bring an application, two photographs and a resume or bio to the auditions to meet with network casting directors.
