With a nod toward the changing direction of the PBS NEWSHOUR, long-time anchor Jim Lehrer announced yesterday he will not be part of the daily anchor rotation team beginning June 6.  Lehrer, who has served as anchor or co-anchor for PBS’ flagship news broadcast for 36 years, said he will maintain an on-air presence on PBS NEWSHOUR especially on Friday evenings to moderate the weekly political analysis of Shields and Brooks, comprised of syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks.  Furthermore, Lehrer will continue to be involved in the editorial direction of PBS NEWSHOUR and the program’s producer, MacNeil/Lehrer Productions.  In December 2009, the news broadcast transitioned from The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer to the PBS NEWSHOUR featuring several rotating anchors including Lehrer as well as Senior Correspondents Gwen Ifill, Judy Woodruff, Jeffrey Brown, Ray Suarez and Margaret Warner.  The latter five senior correspondents will remain as hosts on a rotating basis.
