Daytime dramas All My Children and One Life to Live, after being on ABC 41 years and 43 years respectively, will end their long runs after ABC announced yesterday it is replacing both soaps with two daytime lifestyle series. All My Children will air its last episode this September while One Life to Live will remain until its final episode in January 2012. All My Children first debuted on ABC January 15, 1970 and One Life to Live first bowed July 15, 1968. Both daytime dramas were created by Agnes Nixon. ABC will still have one daytime drama after this shuffle as General Hospital will remain on the schedule. ABC offered details on the two new live shows:
- The Chew debuts in September and during its hour will focus on food from multiple angles such as joy, health, family, ritual, life’s moments and more. Produced by Gordon Elliot, the executive producer behind other food series including Paula Deen’s Home Cooking and Down Home with the Neelys, The Chew will be led by five hosts, restaurateur/author Mario Batali; entertaining expert Clinton Kelly; Carla Hall; Michael Symon; and nutrition expert Daphne Oz.
- The Revolution (wt) opens in January 2012 as a health and lifestyle transformation show hosted by a team of experts and rotating guest contributors who discuss all areas of life and relationships from home to finance to family, food and style. Tim Gunn will lead the team along with celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak and Kimberley Locke, a former American Idol contestant. Each week a different woman’s five-month weight loss journey will be encapsulated in five days, with daily updates and a final reveal on Fridays. 3 Ball Productions is producing.
