ABC set the premiere date for its Extreme Makeover spinoff series as Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition opens May 30 at 1001p, airing after The Bachelorette.  Trainer and transformation specialist, Chris Powell mentors eight participants all deemed “super obese” as they lose dramatic amounts of weight during the course of a year.  Each one-hour episode is a stand-alone featuring a single participant’s journey as Powell moves into their homes with their families or loved ones and oversees their exercise and nutrition makeover.  The series is produced by 3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks USA, the producers behind The Biggest Loser and MasterChef.

Julie Benz and her castmate Michael Chiklis on ABC’s No Ordinary Family, are joining a fall pilot.  Benz was added to the one-hour CBS untitled pilot from Susannah Grant, described as a supernatural medical drama with Jonathan Demme directing.  The plot centers on Michael (Patrick Wilson) a highly-competitive surgeon whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle), a doctor who runs a free clinic, dies and starts to teach him what life is all about from the hereafter.  Benz will play Michael’s sister, a disorganized single mom with a generous heart.  Chiklis is headlining the CBS comedy pilot Vince Uncensored as announced last week.  Both pilots are in second position to the ABC superhero drama.
