A&E Television Networks canceled premiere plans for its eight-part miniseries The Kennedys on the HISTORY Channel. Production on the miniseries is complete and was scheduled to premiere this spring. AETN said while the miniseries was “produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the HISTORY brand.” A network spokesperson also said the content of the miniseries was apparently not historically accurate and did not pass the network’s standards. The multi-million dollar production is considered to be the most expensive program ever for the network and is the first scripted miniseries for HISTORY. Greg Kinnear led the cast as John F. Kennedy, Katie Holmes as Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, Barry Pepper as Robert F. Kennedy and Tom Wilkinson as Joe Kennedy. Joel Surnow developed the miniseries which was produced by Asylum Entertainment and Muse Entertainment. The Kennedys will still air in Canada beginning March 6 and will also launch globally.
