Preliminary numbers based on Fast Nationals from Nielsen were released for the launch of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network last weekend:
- On Saturday launch day, OWN achieved a primetime (8-11p) average of a 0.93 rating among W25-54 and 1.0 million total viewers.
- Overall, OWN was the #3 ad-supported cable network on Saturday among W25-54 at 8p and 9p, following ESPN and USA Network.
- Saturday’s debut of Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes at 8p posted a 1.1 rating with W25-54 and 1.16 million total viewers.
- The two-hour premiere of Ask Oprah’s All Stars on Sunday at 8p delivered a 0.79 rating with W25-54 and 968,000 total viewers.
- Following on Sunday at 11p, the premiere of Master Class earned a 0.45 rating with W25-54 and 602,000 total viewers.

According to Nielsen, Americans watched more television in 2010 as total viewing of broadcast networks and basic cable channels increased by 1% for the year to an average of 34 hours per person each week, reports NYT. Overall, FOX was the #1 broadcast network among A18-49 with an average rating of 3.0, though CBS did best among total viewers for 51 out of 52 weeks.
