Fred Foy, whose voice was the narrator and announcer of the Lone Ranger radio and television show for about a decade, died on Wednesday at his home in Woburn, Mass. He was 89. Mr. Foy was not the first Lone Ranger announcer/narrator though he was the last and certainly the best known, from when he joined the radio show in the late 1940s to when the television show signed off in the late 1950s. Mr. Foy was also the radio announcer for other radio shows including The Green Hornet and Sergeant Preston of the Yukon. He later worked in television and became the staff announcer for ABC in New York, working on The Dick Cavett Show. Mr. Foy was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2000. According to his daughter, Nancy Foy, Mr. Foy was proud of his work on the Lone Ranger show and until the end of his life, he would recite the famous introduction to anyone who asked. In addition to his daughter, Nancy, Mr. Foy is survived by his wife, Frances, another daughter, Wendy; a son, Fritz, and three grandchildren.
