Starz announced actor Andy Whitfield, star of Spartacus: Blood and Sand will not continue in his role for the series’ second season, scheduled to begin in September 2011. Whitfield’s doctors have advised the actor to resume an aggressive treatment regimen for a recurrence of cancer. Starz has not made any decisions about the future of Spartacus: Blood and Sand though the series’ prequel, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena will continue to air in January 2011.

MTV is heading back to Las Vegas for the 25th installment of Real World debuting in first quarter 2011. The seven strangers will live together in a converted party loft in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Real World taped its 12th season in Las Vegas in 2002-2003.

GMC made a one-year, first-look agreement with actress/director/producer Kim Fields. As part of the deal, Fields will offer projects to GMC on a first-look basis that could include scripted series, documentaries, made-for-TV movies and reality shows. For all projects, Fields would serve as director, producer, writer or talent.

CBS’ comedy series The Big Bang Theory extended its production hiatus due to series star’s Kaley Cuoco’s recent off-set injury. Cuoco broke her leg in a horse accident and originally was written out of the plot for one week, followed by a previously scheduled one-week production halt. Cuoco is still recuperating from her accident in an L.A. hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
