This broadcast did better than the series’ previous record which was the day after the 2008 Presidential election at 6.17 million on November 5, 2008.

MTV’s second season debut of Jersey Shore last Thursday became the #1 cable telecast of this year among P12-34 with a 5.1 rating with this demo in addition to pulling in 5.3 million total viewers. This opening episode now ranks as MTV’s best season premiere in seven-plus years.

Balthazar Getty of ABC’s Brothers & Sisters is reportedly not returning to the show for the fifth season of the drama, reports EW. The decision was apparently centered on creative issues and his absence will be explained in the storyline during the September 26 premiere episode which picks up the action one year later after the tragic events of the May finale.
