British native Piers Morgan, known to US viewers as one of the hosts of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, is expected to become Larry King’s replacement for the CNN interview show, reports NYT. Apparently Morgan, who is still under contract with NBC, may be allowed to negotiate directly with CNN on a contract that could become final within a few days. In the UK, Morgan is an experienced interviewer and also hosts Piers Morgan Life Stories on CNN.

TLC is set to premiere Dr. G: Medical Examiner with two back-to-back one-hour episodes on August 14 at 9p and 10p. The series, produced by Atlas Media Corporation, follows Dr. Jan Garavaglia as she probes into tough cases trying to find answers to families’ questions about the death of loved ones.

Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Sela Ward landed a role on CBS’ CSI: NY playing an experienced investigator from Washington, D.C. who displays empathy for victims. Ward begins her new role during the season premiere of CSI: NY. The series will now air on Fridays at 9p this fall. Ward joins other cast members Gary Sinise, Carmine Giovinazzo, Eddie Cahill, Anna Belknap, Hill Harper, A.J. Buckley and Robert Joy. CBS Television Studios produces the series in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Productions.

2010 FIFA World Cup Ratings Final Game: Sunday’s final between Spain and the Netherlands was watched by a total of 24.3 million US viewers on ABC and Univision combined, making it the most-watched soccer match in US TV history, reports Nielsen. The two-and-a-half hour game kicking off at 230p exceeded the previous record of 19.4 million for the US versus Ghana match which aired on June 26. Looking at Univision alone, the World Cup final game broke all audience records on this network for a World Cup final by posting 8.8 million total viewers; 5.4 million A18-49; and 3.3 million A18-34.

ESPN signed Erin Andrews to a new multi-year deal with the channel giving her added responsibilities including a contributing reporter role on ABC’s Good Morning America. Andrews will continue to report from the sidelines of college sports in addition to now joining the College GameDay program where she will anchor several segments during the first hour on ESPNU. College GameDay expands this season starting September 4 to three hours with the first hour on ESPNU at 9a with the latter two hours from 10a to noon on ESPN. Andrews will also contribute reports, interviews and features during the two-hour GameDay portion on ESPN. Furthermore, Andrews will become a regular contributing reporter on ABC’s Good Morning America, offering reports throughout the year.
