Oxygen is giving singer Aubrey O’Day her own reality show in The Aubrey O’Day Project. O’Day, a former lead vocalist with the band Danity Kane was discovered in the 2004 MTV reality series Making the Band. In her new Oxygen show, cameras will follow O’Day as she tries to resurrect her career within the music industry. Ish Entertainment is producing the Oxygen show which has not set a premiere date or the number of total episodes.

FX’s series Damages is moving to DIRECTV in a new deal the satellite provider forged with Sony Pictures Television. The deal calls for 20 new episodes to be produced early next year airing exclusively on DIRECTV in consecutive seasons in 2011 and 2012. Series stars Glenn Close and Rose Byrne along with other major cast members will continue in their respective roles. DIRECTV additionally gained the rights to air the complete and previously-aired seasons one through three of Damages. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with FX Productions.

Late in the day yesterday, the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore reportedly was close to finalizing a big pay raise per episode deal, ensuring that the complete cast would return to the 24-episode season “2.5” and there would be no production delay, reports THR’s Live Feed. The new season was set to begin production this week and the network released a statement saying, “Season 2 premieres July 29 and production is on schedule.”

Peter Fernandez, 83, best known as the voice of the title character in the Speed Racer television series from the 1960s, died Thursday from lung cancer. Peter also was the voice for Speed’s brother Racer X and other characters for the Japanese anime series that was dubbed in English. He voiced other characters for Lupin III: The Secret of Mamo (1978) as well as Astro Boy, Gigantor and Marine Boy. Additionally, Peter made a cameo appearance in the Warner Bros.’ 2008 live-action Speed Racer film.
