AMC renewed its drama series Breaking Bad for a fourth season starring double Emmy winner Bryan Cranston. The series is produced by High Bridge Productions, Inc. and Gran Via Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television for AMC.

Mekia Cox landed a role on NBC’s new fall spy drama Undercovers from J.J. Abrams and produced by Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot. Cox will play Lizzy, the younger sister of the female lead who is oblivious to her family’s involvement with the CIA. Cox previously appeared on The CW’s 90210 and in the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It.

Sony announced it renewed frosh talk show Dr. Oz in four top markets through the 2013-2014 television season, reports B&C. FOX renewed Dr. Oz on WNYW/New York and on WFLD/Chicago and additionally picked it up for WTXF/Philadelphia for a 2011 launch, taking the show away from CBS’ O&O KYW in Philadelphia. In Los Angeles, KABC snagged the show away from FOX’s KTTV. Dr. Oz will continue being renewed on a market by market basis rather than being picked up by station groups as a whole, as Sony opens up other markets for bidding.

Jimmy Dean, former television star and founder of a sausage company bearing his name, died on Sunday at the age of 81. According to Jimmy’s wife, Donna Meade Dean, he died at his Henrico County, VA home. Jimmy is well-known to generations of TV viewers as the founder of Jimmy Dean Sausage and star of the company’s commercials as well as being a professional singer and star of The Jimmy Dean Show on ABC in the mid-1960’s. Jimmy also won a Grammy Award for his “working man” country song “Big Bad John” in 1961. Jimmy wrote the hit song along with Roy Acuff.
