Fess Parker, 85, best-known for playing Davy Crockett in the Disney TV show Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, died Thursday of natural causes. Parker became a household name among kid TV viewers in the 1950s for playing the raccoon-skin cap wearing Crockett and for his other roles in such Disney movies as Old Yeller, The Great Locomotive Chase, Westward Ho the Wagons! and The Light in the Forest. Parker was named a Disney legend in 1991. Parker went on to star as another frontier hero in the TV series Daniel Boone which aired from 1964-1970. Later, he made appearances on a number of TV series including Dragnet, Death Valley Days, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and The Andy Williams Show among others. In more recent years, Parker did well away from television and the movies as he owned a successful winery and resort in the Santa Barbara, CA area.
