NBC Entertainment President Jeff Gaspin announced the network is taking The Jay Leno Show off the air in primetime as of February 12. At the TCA Winter Press Tour, Gaspin said outright, the decision to pull Leno’s primetime show was due to the pressure received from affiliates to make a change and the talk of possible preemptions if the show remained on the air. Gaspin indicated there is not a solid plan for the 10p time slot going forward, though emphasized, “My goal right now is to keep Jay, Conan and Jimmy as part of our late night line up. I have spoken to all of them and proposed that the Jay Leno show move to 1135p, Conan move to 1205a and Jimmy to late night at 105a,” said Gaspin. “As much as I would like to tell you it’s a done deal, we know that’s not true.” Gaspin finished by saying the talks are ongoing.

Art Clokey, 88, creator of the pop culture character Gumby died last Friday at home in Los Osos, CA. Clokey first created Gumby as a student project at the University of Southern California in the early 1950s, dubbing it Gumbasia. Later, he made shorts featuring Gumby and his horse friend Pokey for the Howdy Doody Show and other TV series over the years. Gumby’s look was a combination of the cowlick hair style sported by Clokey’s late father and his wife suggested Gumby have the body like a gingerbread man. Through the years, Gumby inspired numerous toys, revival TV series and satires including the memorable 1980s Saturday Night Live sketch with Eddie Murphy.
